Lap band surgery in Mexico is an option that many people who are moderately to severely obese have been choosing to help achieve their weight loss goals and better health. Lap band is proven to be safe and is not nearly as invasive as stomach stapling and gastric by-pass surgeries. Lap band surgery has much fewer risks and studies have shown that it is very effective in causing weight loss that can be kept off permanently.

The lap band itself is a band that can be adjusted to any size. It fits around the top part of the stomach and is attached during simple laparoscopic surgery. Once in place, the lap band is inflated with a saline solution through a tiny access hole that is just under the skin. When the band is inflated, it puts pressure on the outside of the stomach to make the size of the passageway smaller. A smaller passage restricts the movement of food, thus limiting the amount of food that the stomach can hold.
Normally the size of the passage starts small and may be increased over time. When the patient feels that they have just the right size for the entry to the stomach, the lap band will no longer be adjusted.

One of the newer forms of weight loss surgery is called gastric sleeve resection. A gastric sleeve operation is a preparatory step for a later, more invasive procedure. This type of procedure is usually recommended for patients who are so overweight that their health currently does not allow for other bariatric surgeries to be safe.
With the gastric sleeve operation, a large part of the stomach is removed, sometimes up to 60 percent. The remaining stomach takes on the shape of a sleeve. Later, after the patient has lost enough weight, a gastric bypass can be performed. This two-step procedure is considered to be a “staged” method of weight loss surgery. Doing this in two steps makes that second step much less risky than if both procedures were performed during the same operation.
Many people are choosing a weight loss surgery clinic in Mexico to perform procedures like the gastric sleeve operation and lap band surgery. In Mexico, the same procedures can be completed at a fraction of the cost to do them in the United States. Health insurance quite often will not cover this type of surgery because it is considered to be elective and not a necessary procedure. These clinics can provide high quality and lower price procedures.
